Pastoral Care & SEND

Here at St Edwards’ Church of England Academy, the happiness and well-being of our pupils is paramount. We strive to create an environment, which supports and nurtures pupils to achieve their full potential academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

We operate a House system which is lead by three very dedicated House Leaders: Mrs Mulroy (Nightingale House), Mrs Matthews (Newton House) and Mrs Mountford (Elgar House).

Each house is split into two tutor groups for each year: Edward and Elgar, Isaac and Newton and Florence and Nightingale. When pupils join us in Year 5 they are assigned to a house where they will remain until they leave in the Year 8. We try to ensure that siblings are placed together to allow House Leaders to develop strong links with families. The House system is also designed to embody the Academy ethos of RESPECT and is an integral part of our community both in and out of school.

Each House is in competition with each other to achieve the highest number of Respect Points and also the best attendance, this is displayed weekly on the pupil notices and also in our celebration assemblies. Our House System allows pupils the opportunity to be rewarded for their efforts and achievements in all areas. At the end of each term we have a reward assembly where we celebrate pupils success both individually and collectively as a House and a school.

Each tutor group has a school council member who is invited to meetings to discuss and get involved in how the Academy is run. This allows pupils a voice to communicate the thoughts and feelings of their peers, as well as having an influence on decisions that are being made. We also have a dedicated team of Y8 prefects.

We at St Edwards’ Church of England Academy, pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, which celebrates, supports and respects the talents and potential of every pupil. Here we all journey together in order to learn through faith, grow through hope and achieve through love, allowing all to live life to the full.

Our Additional Needs Team consists of a highly qualified group of individuals who are committed to knowing our pupils exceptionally well and ensuring that every child fulfils their potential. We believe that the progress of every individual learner is of equal importance. Most importantly, every teacher at St Edward’s Church of England Academy is a teacher of every child. We are actively involved in continual professional development with the aim of ensuring that all staff deliver quality first teaching; based on research relating to the needs of individual pupils. We offer a wide range of clubs, activities and interventions, which we encourage all pupils to take part in.
